Car Buying Process – FAQs

Will you still purchase my car if I lost the title?
No. All vehicles purchased by Orthodox Auto Company must be accompanied by the original title. We will, however, walk you through obtaining a new one. It’s easy, and it takes anywhere from 7-10 days to receive it.

What happens to my vehicle after I sell it to your company?
After we buy your vehicle, we send it to our “judgment center” where the vehicle is put through over 100 individual tests in order to decide its fate. Some vehicles are deemed end of life and immediately sent to the crusher to be reused for steel. Others are sent to our inventory center where all salvageable parts are professionally dismantled, stored, and recycled.

What are your hours of operation?
Orthodox Auto Company is open for business Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

How long have you been recycling cars?
We have been recycling cars ever since our doors opened on Orthodox Street in 1968.

What do you do with all the gasoline and fluids left in the vehicle?
Orthodox adheres to the highest EPA standards by separating, draining, and recycling all fluids left in the vehicle.

Who buys the auto parts from the vehicles you purchase?
Most of our customers are insurance companies and body or collision shops.

What do I get when you buy my car?
We pay all of our customers with a 100% guaranteed company check.

Do I need to be at the vehicle when it is being picked up?
Normally, all customers are there to hand over the title and receive payment. However, if you can’t make it to the appointment and need to send someone in your place, then you must have already signed over the title and made a copy for proof of identification.

How do you guys determine the price of my vehicle?
The majority of the vehicles we purchase fall under scrap value. Cars are deemed as scrap value when a vehicle is damaged and repairs costs more than its value, or a vehicle has lost any market value. Scrap value is determined by the weight of the vehicle. If your vehicle still has value then we will use similar vehicles sold at auctions and based on market conditions to determine the value of each vehicle.

Why should I sell my car to your company?
You should sell your car to us because we take care of every car that we purchase as if it were our own. We meticulously drain, dismantle, and crush all of our vehicles with the utmost care and respect for the environment. Also, we try to make the process of selling your vehicle as simple as possible.

What other services does your company offer?
Everything circles around recycling automobiles; however, Orthodox Auto Company also offers lightly used auto parts, new car parts, wholesale auto glass, new-reconditioned car batteries, and car rental services.

What does it mean when a battery has been reconditioned?
Our selection of new-reconditioned batteries are restored by using trickle charging. Trickle charging feeds a slow, consistent charge to the battery, which is healthier in the long run. Quick charging batteries doesn’t allow time to properly readjust slowly loses energy when the charge is complete. Once the battery is charged, the trickle charger keeps a constant influx of energy flowing so the battery never loses energy through the process. This method effectively gives batteries a healthy new life.

What happens with the tags on the vehicle?
Orthodox Auto Company never keeps any tags on the vehicle upon purchasing them. All tags are taken off the vehicle before we tow them.

I just called and nobody picked up, now what?
Orthodox Auto Company deals with a heavy volume of calls on a daily basis. While we try to answer every phone call, sometimes one slips through. Therefore, if you call us and we don’t pick up, simply leave a message with your name and number, and we’ll call you back as soon as possible.
